Kirklees Active Leisure
Background
Huddersfield Leisure Centre, which is operated by Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL), approached us to specify, design and install a new functional zone and cardio floor.
The project involved removing an existing sports vinyl which was installed over a raised access floor. The raised access floor had sustained damage from weights being dropped, and KAL wanted a floor that was robust and up to the task.

Consultation Process
Having worked with KAL on past projects, we were well aware of the high standard they required. To top it off, all the work had to be carried out within a 9-day window.
As part of our consultation process, we carried out some on-site product tests. This would ensure the products we recommended would meet KAL's requirements.
We had our work cut out, but after several site meetings we were ready for the project.

Installation Process
The process of removing the old floor and installing a new one would be very labour intensive. We had a total of 9 operatives on site to deal with the 13 tonnes of obsolete floor that had to be removed. Once the old floor had been removed, we then started to get the new floor into the site.

In total the new floor consisted of 21 tonnes of materials. In the functional area, we supplied and installed 5 layers of robust high impact flooring, totalling 330m2. In the cardio zone we supplied and installed 330m2 of commercial grade luxury vinyl tile (LVT).

We finished the project off with functional markings, ramp edges and trims to suit the various thresholds.

Results
We completed the project within the timeframe given and to budget. This was our biggest project to date, but the challenge was happily accepted, and the results speak for themselves.

Post Covid-19 memberships are steadily increasing, and feedback from members has been tremendous.
Nick Bromley, Fitness Development Manager at KAL had this to say... 'Shout out to... XL Gym Interiors and Ross Johns for not just fixing the floor but making it look amazing'.
We look forward to working with KAL on future projects.
