Background

​Crewe Central TTC is a 'not-for-profit' community table tennis club, helping people of all ages to realise their talents, and improve their fitness and resilience whilst also offering space for socialising and cultivating friendships. They are affiliated with the Table Tennis England (TTE) Premier Club Programme with a 1* Rating and Sport England “Clubmark” accreditation.

 

We were recommended by www.gerflor.co.uk as an approved installer of their specialist Taraflex Table Tennis flooring.

Consultation Process

It quickly became evident that the new premises Crewe Central TTC were taking on needed a lot of work and even more TLC. Formerly a café and play area, the existing carpet tile covered up a mix of terracotta tiles, painted concrete and parquet timber. There was evidence of dampness and a contaminated subfloor, so we requested a site inspection from www.f-ball.com.

F.Ball & Co are the UK's leading manufacturer of flooring adhesives and floor preparation products for the contract flooring industry. They inspected the floor at Crewe Central TTC and submitted a specification to get the subfloor to a suitable standard for the new floor covering.

Installation Process

The area size at Crewe Central TTC was just under 200m2, and this would usually take a few days to complete. But because of the subfloor issues, and the subsequent subfloor recommendations from F.ball & Co, the project was very time-consuming. All in all, the project took around 2 weeks to complete, most of which was getting the subfloor to a good standard.

Once the subfloor was good enough, the Taraflex Table Tennis product was installed in colour ‘Framboise’ (red).

Results

Coupled with much effort from the board and members at Crewe Central TTC, the hall has had a massive transformation. Membership has flourished and the local community has benefitted hugely from this new sporting venue.
